My interview was to my friends daughter Crystal Solis who has a Bachelor of Social Work. She has been in this field for five and a half years. Crystal started working for IES (International Educational Services) but it close after 30 years. Federal government gave Comprehensive Health Services a new contract worth up to $50.7 million to resume operations. CHS (Comprehensive Health Services) took over the contract and is also using the IES former offices and hired about two-thirds of the employees laid off. She works in the office located in 299 E. Heywood Street San Benito, Texas. Comprehensive Health Services was founded in 1975, is one of the nations largest and most experienced providers of workforce medical services. The company partners with commercial companies and the U.S. government to implement and manage cost-effective, customized medical programs for large and dispersed workforces. CHS team members provide high quality medical services and humanitarian care to support the health and well-being of the immigrant children who are sent to the shelters. Don’t waste time! Our writers will create an original "Social Worker Interview" essay for you Create order The job she performs is serving children under 18 years of age from other countries, mainly Central America, who enter the United States without permission. While they are at the shelter, children are provided with their basic needs which include medical care, counseling, case management services, education, recreation, physical exercise, and access to legal services. As soon as a child arrives at one of the shelters the reunification process starts as case manager begin reaching out to the childs family. If they cant locate a relative, then they look for a sponsor. Sponsors are screened as required by Flores Agreement to make sure they are suitable for providing for the childs needs. Her job includes helping to resolve the childrens immigration status and collaborating with legal professionals. She gathers important documentation and writes a detailed report that can help support her clients case. Flores Agreement is explained briefly below In 1985, two organizations filed a class action lawsuit on behalf of immigration children who had been detained by the former Immigration and Naturalization Service challenging procedures regarding the detention, treatment, and release of children. After many years of litigation, including an appeal to the United States Supreme Court, the parties reached a settlement in 1997. The Flores Settlement Agreement imposed several obligations on the immigration authorities, which fall into the three broad categories: The government is required to release children from immigration detention without unnecessary delay to, in order of preferences, parents, other adult relatives, or licensed programs willing to accept custody. If a suitable placement is not immediately available, the government is obligated to place children in the least restrictive setting appropriate to their age and any special needs. The government must implement standards relating to the care and treatment of children in immigration detention. Crystal told me she likes working with the children and giving them her support because they are very vulnerable. They travel from so long to find a better place and to escape from their past. Her goal is to help as many refugees to adjust to their new surroundings. She plays a crucial role in their recovery, which allows them to move forward with their lives. As a mother she says that seeing the children happy is her biggest accomplishment. One of the most heartbreaking case for her was when a little girl from Honduras accompanied by her 18-year-old sister came to the United States but were captured at the Southern border and turn in to the shelter. The girl came from a family of 7 and were abandoned by their father. So, the mother went to Belize in search of work and would send money when she was able to do so. The girl and sister got tired of the extreme poverty and decided to take a chance to seek a better future leaving behind two sisters and a brother. In the shelter her sister couldnt stay because she was already over the age, so they released her to ICE and was return to her home country unable to sponsor her sister because she had no means to provide for the minor. Another of her option for the minor was to ask for a voluntary departure back to Honduras. So, they called the mother back in Belize and she told the agency her daughter couldnt return with her because she had other children to care for. The minor end ed up going to a long-term foster care separated from the only person that cared for her, the sister. That is when you learn and must understand that is impossible to meet everyones needs. How do you balance your personal life from work? It is hard to separate my personal life from my professional cause as a mother you always want to do what is best for your kids. So, in my work my priority is every kid that I get to help and care for. When I get to my house, I try to leave my job and cases behind and focus on enjoying my family. Sometimes is hard to not think of the cases you work with daily because is reality that children are living. As a social work I need to set boundaries between clients and us. The key is planning and making sure you make good use of your time away from work. My advice to you would be to remember that it is very important to have good quality time with your family and dont worry about what you left behind, until you go back to work. What have been the worst stories you have heard from the children? She said some escape their home country from extreme violence, physical abuse and desperate poverty. Others are trafficked into the country and use as sexual slavery or commercial sexual exploitation. Many of the girls have been raped during their long journey to the United States. Others come looking for their parents that left them behind to provide them with their basic needs. While left behind by their parents they have been abuse by family members. In the offices some children have arrived with STDs and even bruises. Do social workers make good money? For many people the social work is known for its low pay. It will depend on which branch of social work you will choose that will dictate your salary. The pay is good but most of all I belief in having good intentions and helping others is way more pleasing. Do you ever regret working in this field? No, I have never regretted the career I chose. In every job there is going to be all different kinds of bad situations just as in our lifes, but it depends on us to try to make the best out of it. What qualities should a social worker need? The main quality would be to have understanding or empathy to help clients. Be able to listen carefully and establish trust between the child. Some clients cant clearly state their needs, so we must learn to read between the lines to interpret the thoughts being held within. Also, I often like to evaluate my own performance and try to improve what I can. Another quality that has helped me is the ability to work and compromise with others to coordinate as a social worker. What would be your advice to me? I can only advice you to get as much information about the field you are interested to help you learn and decide whether this is a job you would enjoy. Never give up on your education no matter how many obstacles you come across. Remember you can only do so much for your clients.

“Taking Responsibility” Free Essays

Robbery, rape, assault, murder, theft, and vandalism: These are just a handful of the crimes committed by children today. Whether the crime be violent or non violent, the crime rate of adolescents under eighteen has increased. Crimes like these have caused people to ponder the question: Should parents be responsible, legally and financially for crimes committed by their children under eighteen? Some believe that parents should not be held accountable for the crime their child commits. We will write a custom essay sample on â€Å"Taking Responsibility† or any similar topic only for you Order Now Others believe that parents should be responsible for their children’s actions. Parents should be held responsible for their children’s crimes because parents should teach their children what is right from wrong at a young age and they should be more involved in their children’s lives and be concerned with the people and places that he or she is associated with. On the other hand, some people determine that if a child under eighteen commits a crime, their parents should not take responsibility for it. When parents discipline a child too much, the child is likely to be rebellious and go against their parents’ wishes. There are parents that have done all that they could and in spite of that, their child gets into criminal activity. The opposing view also believes that even when parents are involved in their child’s life, there are other factors that corrupt a child into committing crime. Society and the media have a great influence on how children act. Peer pressure is another factor that may cause a child to commit a crime. Overall, a parent cannot control their child’s decisions and should not be held liable for their children’s actions. Parents should be held responsible legally and financially for crimes committed by their children under age eighteen because parents should teach their children what is right from wrong at an early age. If parents do not discipline their children for doing the wrong thing, how will their children ever learn from their mistakes? (Rhetorical question) Ministers believe that problems on the street often begin at home. When children have a dysfunctional family or bad influences at home, they are more likely to be involved in criminal activity. If the parents set a bad example for their children they are likely to follow it. It is the parents’ responsibility to let their children know what is not right. If parents make the effort to direct their children toward the right path in life, they will not be misguided or end up following criminal activity. (Cause and effect) If parents do not do their job in teaching their children hat is right from wrong, their children will never learn and assume that it is okay to repeat their false actions. Parents also have the responsibility of elucidating what is right from wrong to their children so that their children can grow up to become successful individuals. Parents should be held responsible legally and financially for the crimes their children commit because parents should be involved in their child’s life and be concerned with the people and places that he or she is associated with. Parents should be familiar with their children’s friends because a child is like a parrot; they repeat the actions of their friends and are easily influenced by them. (Metaphor) If a child is friends with someone who is doing drugs or making bad choices, they are likely to be caught following in their footsteps. It would be wonderful for parents to dump their children in the streets, but they should know where their children are at all times. Satire) Parents need to question their children before they go out: they need to know who they are going to be with and where they are going to be. When parents are informed about the places their children spend time they can contact them and there is a smaller chance that they will be doing something illegal. Therefore, parents should be responsible legally and financially for crimes committed by their children under eighteen because as a parent, their job is to make sure that their children are safe and successful. Parents should have a close or good relationship with their children and they should be concerned with their children’s lives. They must also make the time to get to know the type of people that their children spend time with. If parents do this, not only will they benefit, but their children will benefit as well. Parents will be leading their child to live a pleasant life, striding away from crime and toward a better future. (Tone-Positive) How to cite â€Å"Taking Responsibility†, Papers

Friends with Benefits free essay sample

They soon discover that getting physical will not work and they begin to develop deep feelings for one another but only to deny it. Friends with Benefits, starring Mila Kunis and Justin Timberlake are both well- chosen actors for this movie. Sweet, humorous, romantic are the words to describe this modern R-rated romantic comedy movie, Friends with Benefits. It is another flick about men, women, relationships, commitments, and insecurities. Some may or may not notice, but I would like to point out that Friends with Benefits is very familiar to the movie that came out couple months before called No Strings Attached, starring Natalie Portman and Ashton Kutcher. Both movies have a very similar storyline with the boy and the girl believing that being in a relationship would never turn out well and they are just better off having casual sex with each other without the commitment of a relationship. Friends with Benefits follows Jamie (Mila Kunis), a New York executive recruiter who recruits Los Angeles blog editor Dylan (Justin Timberlake) to take the role as art director of the men’s magazine GQ in the Big Apple City. Jamie is a very sassy, independent woman with great charisma, on the other hand; Dylan is pretty much a funny and laid back guy. Both of them are welcomed to the â€Å"single world† almost immediately at the beginning of the movie. This movie fulfills audiences who are in search of two young, attractive, individuals meet, fall in love, deny their feelings, stumble over an obstacle, and then get together just in time for the ending; very predictable I say. This movie is not like any other movies out there such as No Strings Attached, which was rather messy or overcrowded. This movie is rather successful in being simple and honest, with the focus being entirely on the two leading roles. Also, it creates laughter for audiences and with a little twist of surprises every now and then. Like at the beginning on the movie when both Dylan and Jamie were on the phone, everyone would have thought those two were actually talking on the phone with each other but I believe it surprised all of us that they weren’t because their dialogue with one another makes so much sense. In fact, they were both talking to their boyfriend/girlfriend instead. One of the strengths of this movie is that Timberlake and Kunis are both very likeable and charming people who display enough chemistry to keep us interested, entertained and wanting to keep watching. As I said before, early in the film, their dialogue is often very smart and funny. They may not be the most appealing romantic comedy couple out there but they’re not mismatched and neither one of the character is annoying. The film contains outstanding acting from all the characters involved such as Patricia Clarkson, Jamie’s oversexed mom, Richard Jenkins, Dylan’s father who is by the way suffering from Alzheimer’s disease, a disease that leads to a loss of memory, speaking, and problem solving; which is very touching and realistic; and Woody Harrelson who plays â€Å"Tommy Bollinger†, a homosexual sports editor for GQ who eagerly befriends with Dylan. Listen, I’d love to take you out one night†, â€Å"What? †, â€Å"You got some pretty boys out there in L. A†; â€Å"I’m not gay, Tommy†,†Really? Oh! I just assumed, art director and†¦ your face†. Another thing I like about the movie was the flash mob dance in Time Square and Central Station, which was really amazing with a whole ocean of people. Not every film will have 100% perfect in it; there are always mistakes here and there. As for the weakness, the film’s ending has a sustained drag to it. It contains dilemma after dilemma, which begins to wear on the audience a little. Also, it loses its strong comedic sense and turns it into what you call a â€Å"chick flick†. Throughout the film, motifs that occurred are the different sex scenes and the funny, critical small talks between the two leading characters; not afraid of their â€Å"friends with benefits† title. As for allusions, audiences are able to identify a few; such as the great cameos, Emma Stone who plays Dylan’s ex-girlfriend in the beginning of the film. Also, Jamie’s mother Patricia Clarkson who plays a similar character of Emma Stone’s Easy A character. Friends with Benefits is a realistic film because it does not display any sort of image distortion whatsoever and it was being shot in New York, the city that never sleeps. The actors and events are happening in front of the camera as it records. The film exposes the realistic relationship that can happen between friends. The film shows various different shots from extreme long shots for the flash mobs to many close up shots and medium shots for the two actors when they are in bed. The storyline for the film gives the audiences a really realistic, romantic feel to it like any other romantic comedy. The story is familiar to other movies we may have seen in the romantic comedy genre section with the two main characters meeting each other, falling in love, have their happy moments together, something happens which cause them to break up and in the end, one of them do something so they can patch up again. When audiences are watching the film, as they go through the storyline, they realize that they are in a romantic comedy story themselves. I believe the director’s message is that friends with benefits are like real situations that may or may not happen to some people. The director wants reality and not fictional stories or objects. He wants something that is very cliche and that everyone will go through every day such as getting married, break up, divorce and what not. Director’s main point is he wants reality and not fantasy. The theme that arises within the film is how people think they can have casual sex and believe they won’t have any sort of feelings for the other person. A comparison for this movie would be what I’ve mentioned before, No Strings Attached. It’s all based on the similar of the plot, but I believe Friends with Benefits gave more humorous scenes than the other movie. In the end, this movie leaves an impression on me. Due to all the romantic comedies I’ve watched, this will be one of the best romantic comedies of the year. Although the ending is predictable, the audiences aren’t as disappointed for the film not to end that way because they became so absorbed into the movie. It is a definite must-watch movie for a date or just with friends.
